匿名: Hi Nhixxie! I know you're in nursing school and I heard that it's really intense...I am wondering how do you process large amounts of information for exams? Thanks for your time and wish you luck on your finals :)

Hi! This question is so right up my alley as studying for my finals have been so, so painful. ; n ; I’m not sure what area of studies you are in, so I do have to say that most of my strategies are more so applicable to medical-based learning, but the general principle is there I think!

  • You have to start from day one though. Work loads for finals are much more hectic when you’ve slacked off from the first class. Follow your class syllabus, do advance readings, pre-read your notes. Make outlines during midterms so you can reuse them in during finals. This may be or may be not relevant for you right now, but keep this in mind for the next term; this will make your life easier! :D
  • The best way to learn large amounts of information is to accept the fact that you will never learn them all. This is where your prioritization skills come into play. SO VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT THAT A LOT OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TAKE FOR GRANTED: Look at your class syllabus! Your syllabus is basically an agreement between you and your professor; these are the things your professor promises to teach you, and these are the things you are expected to know and be tested on. When information is in large amounts, be guided!
  • I find in university learning (specifically in terms of medical-based classes) it is much more so important to know why than what. If you’re studying clinical manifestations of diseases, don’t just know it, understand it. A complication of septicemia is shock. Why? An IV push of NaCl is allowable, but not in KCl. Why? Why does your body do what it does? If you can, know this down to the very primary level, like cellular level shit. The same goes for any other class; when you have a formula for a mathematical equation, try to know why it’s set up that way. If you have case studies, know the underlying principles. Knowing the basics allows you to critically think through any questions, which is great because you ain’t got no time to memorize shit at this point!! :D
  • Most importantly, you can read as much as you want, but unless your mind is well conditioned, it’s not gonna go through. Take care of yourself. Rest up, eat right, get an adequate amount of sugar in there, drink water, feed your brain! Nap fifteen minutes or so SET UP AN ALARM CLOCK LOVE YOURSELF PLS

That’s it, I think. I’m gonna nap a little bit, thinking about it now.

Kick those exams up the ass <3
