charlieopeia: Omg the timing for that neuron question couldn't have been better because I have my A&P exam tmrw and I can't seem to wrap my head around ventricles?? So are they just empty spaces under the white matter that holds and make the CSF? Thank you!! (the google answers are doing no me no good right now.. :()

GILLIANNN VENTRICLES ARE COOLEST SHIT! When I was in U1 I also lost my shit over these things because it really is a confusing part of the brain, but yeah, they’re basically hollow structures within the brain, and the thing is I think most A/P books misconstrue ventricles because they make it look like an entire entity apart from the brain when I thoroughly believe they’re just literal brain spaces, kinda like how sinuses are.

I was in my surgery rotation and got to see a ventriculostomy (they basically drill a hole in the skull and insert a tiny tiny camera into it to examine its inside) and this is what it looked like

Literal spaces!

But he thing is the ventricles don’t actually make the CSF, it’s the choroid plexus that produces them. They sit on the walls of the ventricles like this

Lookin like little coral cuties and it’s exactly these structures that actually produces CSF. Ventricles just sorta house them. :D HOPE THAT HELPS <333
